W.Va. man charged in child sex abuse case

A Morgantown, W.Va., man was charged in Washington County last week with sexually abusing a minor on two occasions, Washington County District Court documents show.

Henry Nils Hale, 44, of 189 Creek Road, also faces child abuse, second- and third-degree assault and third-degree sex offense charges in each of the two incidents, court records show.

The alleged offenses happened in 2005 and 2006 at two locations in Washington County, according to charging documents. Hale also faces charges in West Virginia, according to the documents.

Hale denied touching the girl, according to charging documents. He was being held on $200,000 bond, records show.

Stepmother charged with child abuse

A Hagerstown woman was charged with child abuse March 29 after she allegedly beat four children in her care with a clothes hanger, an electric cord and a boot, Washington County District Court records show.


Deborah Crawford, 42, of 132 West North Ave., was charged with four counts each of second-degree child abuse and second-degree assault, court records show.

The children told police that Crawford, their stepmother, was angry because she thought they stole money from her, Hagerstown Police Officer D. White wrote in charging documents. The children were taken to foster homes until their mother could return from New York to retrieve them, White wrote.

Crawford was being held on $25,000 bond, court records show.
