Budget requests

The Washington County Commissioners approved the following fiscal 2009 budget requests Tuesday:

$25,000 for Discovery Station
$45,000 for C-Safe
$3,000 for 27 emergency services companies to help pay for fuel costs for first-responding vehicles.

Home Chemical Safety Week poster contest awards
Commissioners President John F. Barr proclaimed April 20-26 Home Chemical Safety Week in Washington County.
Barr presented a proclamation to Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) co-chairs Kevin Lewis, acting director of Washington County Emergency Services, and Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore.
As a part of Home Chemical Safety Week, the LEPC held a poster contest for fourth-grade students in Washington County Public Schools.

This year's poster contest winners were:

1st place: Jonathan Birky, Boonsboro Elementary

2nd place: Julia Wiles, Smithsburg Elementary

3rd place: Corina Grimm, Sharpsburg Elementary

Money approved for Rural Heritage Museum log cabin

The county commissioners on Tuesday approved $20,000 in hotel-motel tax funds to pay for the reconstruction of the Washington County Rural Heritage Museum's Dr. Glass Log Cabin.

The cabin is part of the museum's Historic Village Project, which is at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center.

Other buildings in the project, which is still under construction, include the Mt. Tabor church and Poffenberger House.

Contract to replace hangar roof approved

The roof of a T-hangar at Hagerstown Regional Airport will be replaced by USA Construction Services, Inc. of Capital Heights, Md., after that company submitted the low bid on the project.

The county commissioners unanimously approved the $32,723 bid Tuesday.

The roof of T-hanger #2 was installed in 1965, according to county documents.
