WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc. board of directors announced Monday that a Mercersburg, Pa., man will soon step into the nonprofit organization's chief administrative position.

Bruce Dreisbach, who has a background in marketing, said his good experiences while studying at Penn State Mont Alto brought him back to southern Franklin County many years later.

"I've lived all over the United States and worked all over the world, but my wife will tell you that for 30 years I've been trying to move back to the Cumberland Valley," Dreisbach said.

Dreisbach will succeed Carole L. Malin when she leaves the downtown revitalization organization in early May after a year and a half as manager.

In addressing a room of 30 Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc. supporters, Dreisbach said he and his college hunting buddies did their shopping for "pizza and shotgun shells" in Waynesboro due to Mont Alto's limited commercial base.

"This was our universe," he said.

Dreisbach, who has a master's degree from Washington, D.C.'s Nyack College, said he feels he can provide a fresh eye for the town's revitalization, since he and his wife, Martie, have only been living in the area for the past five years.

"Waynesboro is like a beautiful woman with great bones. Even if she's down on her luck, you can see there's beauty in the architecture and infrastructure," Dreisbach said.

Carol Aubitz, from Excelsior Marketing, addressed the need for Waynesboro to focus on tourism and visitors during her presentation to the organization.

"They're not going to patronize your Kmart. They want unique shops," she said.

"Waynesboro, in particular, and southcentral Pennsylvania and Franklin County have a very unique mix of historical types of places, events and heritage," said Dreisbach, whose first day is May 5.

Malin, in her financial report, said the organization had $85,600 in total income from April 2007 to March 2008.
