Otterbein United Methodist Church in Hagerstown is sponsoring a bicycle and portable sewing machine donation drop-off opportunity for the Bikes for the World project on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Bikes for the World is a sponsored project of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity, whose central mission is to collect unwanted bicycles and related material in the United States and deliver it at low cost to community development programs assisting the poor in developing countries.
Portable sewing machines are also now included in this program to provide seamstresses and artisans in underdeveloped countries the opportunity to put them to productive use in their crafts.
A working, portable sewing machine (no cabinet please) provides an opportunity and income to move disadvantaged people from a life of poverty to self-sufficiency.
