Suns pull out victory with run in ninth

April 21, 2008

EASTLAKE, Ohio - Clint Everts, Edulin Abreu, and Trevor Lawhorn came to the Hagerstown's rescue on Sunday and took the Suns out of the darkness.

Lawhorn singled to drive in the winning run in the top of the ninth, while Everts and Abreu combined to pitch four innings of scoreless relief to help the Suns take a 3-2 win over Lake County and end a four-game losing streak.

Everts pitched 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief behind starter Jeff Mandel before Abreu (1-0) fired 1 2/3 innings of two-hit relief to get the win.

But it wasn't without drama.

Abreu allowed Lake County pinch hitter Jeff Hehr to leadoff the ninth with a double and Adam White to follow with a one-out single.

After a wild pitch advanced White to second, Lucas Montero hit a grounder to first baseman Bill Rhinehart, who threw Hehr out at home.

Atahualpa Severino came on to strike out Karexon Sanchez for his first save and the Suns' win.

The Suns got the winning run in the ninth as Steven Souza hit a one-out double and scored on Lawhorn's sincle to center.

Hagerstown took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on Souza's RBI single and a wild pitch. The Captains tied the game in the fifth.
