Health department employee of the quarter

Jill Sandeen has been named the Washington County Health Department's Employee of the Quarter for January through March, 2008.

Sandeen has worked as a nurse at Eastern Elementary School for more than 12 years. She was nominated by a colleague who said, "Jill does her job and does it cheerfully. Eastern Elementary School's health office is very busy and the day-to-day challenges can be quite stressful. Jill never complains and continually performs her duties in a caring, professional manner."

National Kidney Foundation names director

The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland has appointed Carolyn Smith-Kennedy as director of Western Maryland Services. Kennedy relocated to Berkeley Springs, W.Va., from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where she managed Delmarva Services for the NKF.

She will be the spokesperson for the NKF in Frederick, Washington and Garrett counties in Maryland and Hampshire, Morgan, Berkeley and Jefferson counties in West Virginia.

Hospital manager receives Fellow status

RANSON, W.Va. - Christina Coad, a process engineer who assists in the management of the emergency department and laboratory services at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, has advanced to Fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society representing nearly 30,000 health-care executives.

Fellow status is the highest level of professional achievement in ACHE. Currently, about 3,000 healthcare executives in the nation hold this distinction.

Coad, who began her healthcare career in 1979, holds a master's degree in executive leadership/nursing, a master's degree in management with human resources and organizational development as a focus, and is working on a doctorate of philosophy degree. She also is nationally certified as an emergency nurse.

Coad joined Jefferson Memorial Hospital in 2006.

Obidi is board-certified pediatrician

Partners in Pediatrics, Hagerstown, announces that Dr. Emeka Obidi has been selected fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has successfully fulfilled his requirements to be a board-certified pediatrician.
