Bridgewater students from Washington County named to Who's Who

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Washington County residents Brittany Higgins and Jessica Powers were among 30 Bridgewater College seniors who have been selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Brittany, a 2004 Williamsport High School graduate, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Higgins of Williamsport. Brittany, who is majoring in communication studies, is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, a national communications honor society.

She is a member of the Student Senate and serves as an orientation leader. She also is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has participated in intramural sports. She volunteers in food service and with the single mother's service at Valley Church in Harrisonburg, Va.

Powers, a 2004 graduate of North Hagers-town High School, is the daughter of Wayne and Sheila Powers of Hagerstown. Jessica, who is majoring in psychology with a minor in communication studies, is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater's scholastic honors society, Psi Chi, a national psychology honor society and Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society.

She is a member of the Student Senate, the Honor Council and the Judicial Hearing Board. She is a member of the Psychology Club and is a member of the Student Ambassador Association. She is on the staff of WGMB, the campus radio station, and is a staff writer for Veritas.

For the past three years, she has served as president of the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and has been a student leader for four Collegiate Challenge Alternate Spring Break trips. As a junior, she studied in New Zealand under the Brethren Colleges Abroad Program.
