Mayfest on May 16 to benefit Hagerstown afternoon arts program

April 18, 2008

St. John's Episcopal Church will hold Mayfest on Friday, May 16, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. in Trimble Hall at the corner of Antietam and Walnut streets in Hagerstown.

The fundraiser begins with a wine tasting featuring hors d'oeuvres and wine. Following the wine tasting, St. John's will present an evening of dining. The theme for this year's dinner is "The Garden of Eden."

Tickets to both events cost $50 prepaid. Call 301-733-2560 to order tickets. The event is expected to be a sellout.

The church is also offering the option of attending only the wine tasting for $20 in advance or $25 at the door. You will have the opportunity to purchase wines, as well.

Proceeds from this year's Mayfest will benefit the Hagerstown Neighborhood Center's Afternoon Arts Program.

The arts program provides an opportunity for at-risk children to participate in the visual and performing arts and to enhance their skills in working with the computer.

This project is a joint outreach program cosponsored by St. John's and Trinity Lutheran churches. The arts program has been in operation at Memorial Recreation Center since the beginning of the year.

Residents can also support the program by purchasing raffle tickets. Tickets cost $5 or five for $20. Items on the raffle include signed and numbered prints by local artist Ben Jones, two tickets to a Washington Redskins football game (TBA) and a $75 gift certificate to the Airport Inn.
