Low-flying plane is conducting environmental survey in Washington County

April 17, 2008

A low-flying plane that has been spotted around Washington County is doing an aerial environmental survey and should be finished by the end of this week, Hagerstown Regional Airport Manager Carolyn S. Motz said Wednesday.

She would not say who is operating the plane or elaborate on the survey.

The plane has caught the attention of residents in the area, several of whom have called The Herald-Mail to ask about it as it has flown over different parts of the county.

An officer at Washington Air Route Traffic Control Center in Leesburg, Va. said last Friday that the plane is flying under visual sight rules whereby pilots fly by sight and rudder."

Motz said residents with questions can call her at 240-313-2777.
