April 16, 2008

HARRISBURG, Pa. - A Mont Alto, Pa., man was charged last week with unlawful contact with a minor after allegedly trying to set up a meeting with a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl, according to a press release from Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett.

Sandy Lee Daywalt, 48, of 5437 Anthony Highway, was taken into custody April 10 in Swatara Township in Dauphin County. He was there for what he believed was to be a meeting with the girl, according to the release. Daywalt was driving a vehicle fitting the description of one he had given an undercover officer during an online chat.

Daywalt was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Michael J. Smith in Harrisburg on a first-degree felony count of unlawful contact with a minor; two second-degree felony counts of the same charge; and a third-degree felony charge of unlawful use of a computer.

He was jailed in Dauphin County on $150,000 with a preliminary hearing scheduled before Smith Thursday, according to the release.

On March 3, Daywalt used an Internet chat room to contact an undercover agent from the state's Child Predator Unit, according to the release. The agent was using the online profile of a 14-year-old girl, it stated.

During a series of chats, Corbett said Daywalt discussed sexual acts, according to the statement. Daywalt also asked to take nude pictures of the girl with his cell phone camera when they met.
