April 16, 2008|By MATTHEW UMSTEAD

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Three people were taken to hospitals in Martinsburg and Ranson, W.Va., after a four-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on W.Va. 45 at the intersection of Olympic Drive in Berkeley County, according emergency and police officials.

The medical condition of those transported to City Hospital and Jefferson Memorial Hospital was not immediately clear, but investigating Berkeley County Sheriff's Department deputy S. Crites said he did not believe the motorists received life-threatening injuries.

Crites said the accident at about 6 p.m. involved two trucks and two cars in a "chain-reaction type" of collision.

The motorists were believed to be area residents, Crites said.

The sheriff's department was assisted by firefighters from Baker Heights and Bedington volunteer fire departments, Crites said.
