April 16, 2008

BOONSBORO - Three people have filed for two open seats in Boonsboro's election.

The current mayor, Charles F. "Skip" Kauffman Jr., 58, is running unopposed to keep the seat he's held for 20 years.

Before being elected mayor in 1988, Kauffman held a council seat for four years.

His wife, Cynthia Kauffman, 55, filed Monday to run for a seat on the council. The couple lives at 416 N. Main St.

Barbara Wetzel, 64, of 112 Della Lane, and Cynthia Kauffman are vying for one open seat on the council.

That seat is being vacated by Councilman Ray Grove, 61, who has decided not to seek re-election after 16 years on the town council.

The deadline to file as a candidate was Monday. All terms are four years.

The town's election is May 13 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the town's community center in Shafer Memorial Park.

The mayor earns $3,600 annually. Town council members are paid $1,200 each year.
