April 14, 2008

Rural community leaders across Maryland are invited to attend a daylong symposium that will examine the state of the small town and issues affecting rural communities.

The symposium -- sponsored by the Maryland Rural Community Assistance Project and the Maryland Rural Development Corp., in partnership with the Rural Maryland Council -- will be Wednesday, April 23, at Allegany College of Maryland in Cumberland. Md.

Topics to be discussed include: affordable housing needs and resources, environmental concerns and the changing face of rural Maryland's small rural towns and communities.

Other sessions will provide participants with the tools they need to help finance affordable housing developments and green construction and retrofitting, and to survive the foreclosure crisis.
