Catherine "Katie" Linton was inducted into the National Honor Society at McDaniel College in Westminster Md., March 30.

Katie is majoring in psychology.

She is the daughter of Terri Hollingshead, Boonsboro, and Kenneth Linton, Jr. of Gapland.

She is a 2006 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Emily Myers of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the winter term at Furman University.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Myers of Hagerstown.

Caity Hott, a 2007 graduate of Berkeley Springs (W. Va.) High School, recently competed with the SIFE organization of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

She was recognized for exceptional writing skills by Dr. Richard Weeks, history professor at Wesleyan. Her paper, "The War after the War."was selected to be presented to a panel of national history scholars.

Caity attends Wesleyan on the Promise Scholarship, WVWC Presidential Scholarship, Music Performance Award and local/regional United Methodist Scholarships.

She is the daughter of Dan and Angie Hott of Berkeley Springs.

Shepherd University (W.Va.) senior Kaitlin Curry recently presented her paper "Mountain Speech and Storytelling Traditions of Appalachia," at the Appalachian Studies Association Conference. Curry's paper was presented with scholars and professors from Roanoke (Va.) College, East Tennessee State University, and Adrian (Mich.) College.

Curry was the only undergraduate in her session. A Ronceverte, W.Va., native, she is the daughter of John and Kim Curry. She is a senior English major and honors student. She plans to attend Georgetown University next fall, in the applied linguistics program.

Kara Elizabeth Carmack, a senior art and art history major at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester.

A graduate of McConnellsburg (Pa.) High School, she is the daughter of Ronnie and Kathy Carmack of Harrisonville, Pa.

MONT ALTO, Pa. - Fifteen students at Penn State Mont Alto were inducted into the adult learner honor society, Alpha Sigma Lambda, during the spring semester.

This year's inductees include: Amanda Baker, Fayetteville, Pa.; Ruth Bookmiller, Greencastle, Pa., Kelly Buffington, Mont Alto; Shelia Burroughs, Chambersburg, Pa., Bradley Lind, Waynesboro, Pa., Amy Lyman, Shippensburg, Pa., Eduardo Quiros, Chambersburg, Tara Reed, Greencastle, Jennifer Sampson, Waynesboro, Stephanie Sanders, Gettysburg, Pa., Lisa Selser, Chambersburg, Carol Shaffer, Chambersburg, Joyce Shearer, St. Thomas, Pa., Kimberly Strawbridge, St. Thomas and Bonnie Welsh, Waynesboro.

Penn State Mont Alto's Zeta Pi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda is open to students at the campus who have a minimum 3.2 grade-point average, have completed a minimum of 30 credits from Penn State, and are at least 23 years of age.

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Hancock resident Tonya Sornson received the Care of Trees Scholarship for study at Allegany College of Maryland for the 2007-08 academic year, the school announced.

Sornson is a forestry major. She previously studied at Northern Virginia Community College.

The 1996 C.O. Hylton High School graduate formerly worked as an optician. She is married to Eric Sornson.
