Antietam Recreation open house

Antietam Recreation Day Camp on Garis Shop Road, south of Hagerstown, invites the public to an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 12, on Friday and on Saturday.

The summer camp will run from June 9 to Aug. 22. Each week has a different theme, such as Pirates of the Antietam, Crazy Critter, Indiana Jones and Splish Splash.

Daily lessons emphasize character development based on Christian principles.

Baby care class

FREDERICK, Md. - Where's the Instruction Manual? baby care basics class will be held Fridays, May 9 and 16, June 6 and 13, and July 11 and 18, at Frederick Memorial Hospital Wellness Center at Francis Scott Key Mall. BirthPlace tours

FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick Memorial Hospital will offer BirthPlace tours, guided tours of BirthPlace and Family Center on Saturday, April 19, Tuesday, April 22, Friday, May 2, Friday, May 9, Tuesday, May 20, Saturday, May 24, Friday, June 6, Saturday, June 14, Tuesday, June 17, and Saturday, June 28, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, 400 W. BMX/Skate Nights

WILLIAMSPORT - BMX/Skate Nights will be held every Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. beginning April 13, at New Hope Alliance Church, 300 S. Artizan St., in the parking lot.

Those ages 11 to 18 are invited to the kick-off opening night featuring free pizza and drinks. Bring skateboards and bikes. There is an 8-foot-high half-pipe with drop-in, grinding rail and more. Helmets are required and will be provided as available.

Parents must fill out a medical release form and participants must bring it along with a contact number where parents can be reached during BMX/Skate Night.

Healthy Kids Day

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg Memorial YMCA will host Healthy Kids Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13.

Highlights include crafts, entertainment and Phantom Shadow inflatables. The Meadows will provide free ice cream, frozen yogurt and Italian ice samples.

The day also will include a 1-kilometer fun run and field activities, demonstrations of fun youth and family fitness activities, including Zumba, tae kwon do, diving and swim teams, and more.

In addition, community organizations will be present to inform kids and families about different avenues for healthy living.

The free event is sponsored by Summit Health and Franklin County Drug Task Force.

Caring for the elderly

TRIAD of Washington County, a senior citizen advocacy organization, will hold a series of free seminars about "Caring for the Elderly - a How-to for Care-Givers" from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, April 14, at AMVETS Post 10, 770 Frederick St., Hagerstown.

Stephanie J. Alexander will talk about the process of caring for the elderly in an assisted living or a nursing home setting. There will be refreshments and prizes.

Raising teens class

FREDERICK, Md. - Ann Adams will present "Parents' Tasks in Raising Teens" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Families Plus!, 35 E. Church St.

Adams will discuss how parents can help their teens handle the process of separation from their parents and help them develop an individual sense of self. The program is free. To register, call Families Plus! at 301-694-9002.

Frisbee league registration

Fitness for children

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Fun, Fun, Fun & Fit: Organized fitness conditioning for children in grades 3 through 7. Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Chambersburg YMCA. Arts Express

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Council for the Arts will offer its spring series of Arts Express, a free fine-arts workshop for children in grades two through five. Arts Express enables young people to work directly with professional artists in creating their own work of art.

The workshops are from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Eugene Clarke Recreation Center on Third Street in Chambersburg. Advance registration is required, call 717-264-6883. Due to limited class size, registrations are taken for one class at a time. Participants may arrive as early as 6:20 p.m. to check in and make their name tags. Classes begin at 6:30 p.m.
