Samaritan house receives donation

The C&O Canal Association donated $200 toward the Interfaith Service Coalition's renovation of the Samaritan house on High Street, Hancock Mayor Daniel A. Murphy announced Wednesday.

The association, which often coordinates with the town on bike rides, said the donation was meant to recognize the town's hospitality.

Hancock budget discussion on agenda

The Hancock Town Council will hold a public workshop to discuss parts of the town's budget on Wednesday, April 23, at 7 p.m., Mayor Daniel A. Murphy said.


Union Army hero topic of lecture

Union Army hero Joshua Chamberlain will be the topic of a lecture hosted Thursday, April 24, by the Alpine Station Civil War Roundtable, Hancock Mayor Daniel A. Murphy said.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the town's meeting room and is free to the public, Murphy said. The speaker is a distant relative of Chamberlain, he said.

Plans under way to start farmers market

Plans are under way to begin a weekly farmers market this spring for the sale of homegrown or homemade products in Joseph Hancock Jr. Park, Mayor Daniel A. Murphy said Wednesday. The town has not arranged a day and time or settled on the rules, he said.

Mayor to speak on veterinarian practice

Hancock Mayor Daniel A. Murphy will speak Sunday, April 27, about his 30-year practice as a veterinarian in Hancock at a meeting of the Hancock Historical Society. The event begins at 2 p.m.
