Salem Methodist to hold coffeehouse

Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville will hold its Friday Coffeehouse today from 7 to 10 p.m.

Open mic begins at 7 p.m. and afterward, at 8 p.m., the music of Aca-Perco with folk singer and songwriter Jennie Avila and percussionist and drum maker Stephen Wright begins. A $5 to $10 donation is suggested at the door.

Specialty coffee, tea and gourmet treats will be available. We need your talent! Sign up for 10 minute open mic time slot by calling Jennifer Silbert at 301-432-7984. This is a family friendly, nonsmoking event.

Proceeds from this concert will be specifically used to benefit the Parent Child Center in Hagerstown and to address the issue of child abuse and neglect in Washington County. The church is at 25 S. Main St, Keedysville.


Fire company to hold yard, soup sale

The Sharpsburg Fire Co. will hold an indoor yard, soup and sandwich sale Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at the fire house.

Homemade chicken corn, ham and bean, and vegetable soups will be sold. Take-out containers will be available for the soups. Country ham, steamers and hot dogs will be for sale.

Ruritan club to hold breakfast

The Pleasant Valley Ruritan Club will hold a pancake breakfast Saturday from 6 to 11 a.m. at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren.

The breakfast costs $6 for adults; $3 for children 6 to 12, and children younger than 6 eat free. The breakfast features pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, sausage gravy, orange juice and coffee. Country ham sandwiches will be on sale for $2. The Girls Scouts will provide a bake sale table. Proceeds from the breakfast will be used to fund community service projects, the local emergency services and youth scholarships.

Shepherd's Spring spring events

Shepherd's Spring Outdoor Ministry Center, Sharpsburg, is sponsoring spring events open to the public.

A Wildflower Walk will take place Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. beginning at the main lodge. Lots of wildflowers are in bloom, including Dutchman's Britches and Virginia Cowslips. This event is free.

A chicken barbeque and music festival dubbed the "Sounds of Spring" will be Sunday, April 27. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased on site that day.

Entertainment includes a wildflower walk at 2:30 p.m. and the musical groups Living Water at 3 p.m., Janet Fink at 3:45 p.m., The Gospel Travelers at 4 p.m., The Celebration Ringers bell choir at 5 p.m. and Joyful Noise at 5:45 p.m.

A chicken barbecue will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Lawn chairs are welcome for enjoying the music. The center is at 16869 Taylors Landing Road, Sharpsburg.

Lutheran church to hold dinner

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Sharpsburg, will host a spaghetti dinner Tuesday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The meal costs $5.25 for adults. Desserts will be available for $1. Proceeds will go to help fire victims, the REACH shelter and the South County Food Bank.

The church is at the corner of Church and Main streets in Sharpsburg.

Kavanaugh, House to speak at senior site

Ita Kavanaugh will speak on the topic "Drugs for the Heart and Circulation" Monday at 10 a.m. at the Southeastern Senior Site in Keedysville.

Helen House will speak Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. on the topic "Relaxation Strategies to Improve Your Health" and conduct exercises. At 10 a.m. Tom Day will conduct "Issues and Answers."

HCC exercises classes will continue Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Participants must register through HCC for these classes.
