Cody Butts drove in the game-winning run with a single, lifting Heritage Academy to a 5-4 win over Grace Academy in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference game at Hellane Park on Thursday.

The score was tied at 4-4 as Heritage (4-0, 4-0) came to bat in the bottom of the seventh. Chad Lowry and Aaron Clark drew walks to start the winning rally. One out later, both runners moved up on a passed ball before Butts hit a full-count pitch to right-center to drive in Lowry and end the game.

"I was just going to hit anything that was close," Butts said.

Butts had two of Heritage's four hits.

"In the last inning, we were able to work the pitcher and get a couple of base on balls," Heritage coach Mike Lowry said. "Cody is capable of doing that every time that he comes up to bat. He is a smart hitter. He just worked the pitcher hard and came through in the clutch."

Hamilton Stamper (2-0) got the win for Heritage, allowing just four hits while striking out 15.

Still, Grace (1-3, 1-2) led 4-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, as starter Brandon Hess kept Heritage in check.

But the Eagles rallied to tie the score in the sixth, helped by two Grace errors and a couple wild pitches.

Ben Barnett drove in two runs for Grace.

"That was a great game and it was well-played," Grace coach Mark Sandell said. "It was a really good comeback. They put forth some good effort."
