April 10, 2008

RANSON, W.Va. - A Ranson woman pushing a baby in a stroller as she crossed Mildred Street on Wednesday afternoon was struck by a pickup truck, said Ranson Police Department Patrolman Matthew Custer.

The woman, Hayley Brown, was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital but her injuries did not appear life-threatening, Custer said.

The baby stroller was hit but the baby was OK, Custer said.

The driver of the truck said he did not see the woman at first, Custer said.

William Payton, 68, of Charles Town, W.Va., was charged with failure to yield for a pedestrian at a crosswalk, Custer said.

The accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ambrose Drive near a 7-Eleven.
