BlueClaws use late rally to nip Suns

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Stephen Englund's RBI single scored Francisco Plasencia in the top of the eighth inning as the Hagerstown Suns tied the game at 5, but Michael Durant doubled and scored on Joel Naughton's single in the bottom half to give the Lakewood BlueClaws a 6-5 victory in the South Atlantic League on Wednesday.

Lakewood reliever Jared Simon, who got the final out in the eighth inning, retired the Suns (3-2) in order in the ninth to get the victory.

The BlueClaws (2-4) opened the scoring in the first on Michael Taylor's RBI double off Suns starter Brad Peacock. Hagerstown tied the game at 1 in the third on Tim Pahuta's leadoff home run.

Lakewood took a 2-1 lead in the fourth Durant's homer, then scored three runs in the sixth on Travis Mattair's RBI single and Naughton's two-run double for a 5-1 advantage.

The Suns answered with three runs in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4. Englund led off the inning with a homer, and an error, Daniel Lyons' single, a walk, Jake Smolinski's sacrifice fly and Bill Rhinehart's RBI groundout resulted in the other two runs.
