Boys & Girls of Washington County event to feature "Remember the Titans" player

Julius Campbell, a former high school football player who was portrayed in the movie "Remember the Titans," will be the guest speaker at the annual Steak & Burger Dinner to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.

The event will be held Thursday, April 24, at the Sheraton Four Points on Dual Highway in Hagerstown, starting at 6 p.m.

Campbell played at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., in the late 1960s early '70s and was portrayed in the movie starring Denzel Washington. Actor Wood Harris played Campbell in the movie.

The evening will include entertainment by members of the Boys and Girls Club, a silent auction and meal.

Table sponsorships are available for $500 and provide a group with eight tickets to the dinner where you will be joined by Boys and Girls Club members. Individual tickets cost $50 per person. You can also sponsor a child through a contribution to the dinner.

"Remember the Titans,' which was released in 2000, tells about a black football coach (Washington) who transfers to an integrated high school where he's faced with turning black and white prejudices into teamwork and winning the state championship with a racially mixed team in a racially divided society.
