April 09, 2008

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Hagerstown Suns benefited from the error of Lakewood's ways.

Hagerstown (3-1) scored three runs in the fourth inning - two on outfielder Dominic Brown's drop of Tim Pahuta's fly - to jump to a 5-2 South Atlantic League win over the BlueClaws on Tuesday.

Michael Burgess added a solo home run in the sixth and Bill Rhinehart drove in a run in the seventh with his second double of the game.

It allowed Hassan Pena (1-0) to win his Hagerstown debut as he pitched five shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out one and walking one.

Erik Arnesen pitched two shutout innings of relief before Edulin Abreu and Martin Beno gave up single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.

Rhinehart led off the third with a double off Lakewood starter Drew Naylor. After Burgess drew a one-out walk, Stephen King hit an RBI single to center to score Rhinehart with the 1-0 lead.

With two outs, Pahuta hit a fly to right that Brown misplayed to score Burgess and King for the 3-0 lead.

Daniel Lyons, who singled and stole second before scoring in the seventh, had two hits.
