PREP BASEBALL



WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ian Smith ignited a seven-run fourth inning with a two-run double as No. 2 Waynesboro beat Big Spring 9-2 in Mid-Penn Colonial action Tuesday.

Brenton Kopecek and Nathan Kauffman had three hits apiece, Smith and Ian Ramsey each had two hits and two RBIs and Nathan Minnich had a home run and two RBIs for the Indians (4-1, 2-0).

John Brunner allowed only three hits and struck out five in a complete-game effort.

No. 3 Chambersburg 2, Central Dauphin 1

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Calvin Mentzer pitched a four-hitter with four strikeouts and had an RBI to lead Chambersburg to a Mid-Penn Commonwealth victory over Central Dauphin.

Jared Shelly's solo homer in the fourth inning gave the Trojans (3-1, 2-0) a 2-0 lead.

No. 7 Berkeley Springs 12, No. 5 Martinsburg 9

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Michael Twigg had 15 strikeouts and two hits as Berkeley Springs beat Martinsburg.

Jeremy Michael had three doubles for the Indians (10-5).

Kameron Puller had a grand slam, five RBIs, two stolen bases and scored three runs, Ryan Bennett had two hits and two RBIs and Brandon King had an RBI double for the Bulldogs.

Heritage 18, Calvary 7

Travis Barathlow and Hamilton Stamper each had three hits for Heritage Academy, which used a 13-run outburst in the second inning to defeat Calvary Christian.

Steven Barthalow earned his first victory as the Eagles move to 3-0 on the season.

St. James 7, Potomac 4

McLEAN, Va. - Tucker Smoot had three hits to help St. James defeat Potomac in the Mid Atlantic Conference.

Brad Kretzer and Dylan Zimmerman each had two hits and two RBIs and Erick Fernandez and Grant McWilliams each had two hits for the Saints (2-3).

No 1 Greencastle 9, Harrisburg 0

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Autumn Appleby pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts as Greencastle-Antrim shut out Harrisburg in five innings.

Roxanne Dewalt went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Katy Bobbitt had two hits and two RBIs and Kayla Pond homered for the Blue Devils (5-0).

No. 4 Waynesboro 11, Big Spring 0

NEWVILLE, Pa. - Taryn Ashway struck out 12 on her way to a one-hitter as Waynesboro shut out Big Spring in five innings in the Mid-Penn Colonial. Ashway also had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI.

Danni Miller had two hits and two RBI, Amanda Gray and Hillary Rowe each had two hits and three runs scored and Boo Kuhn had two hits for the Maidens (3-1, 2-1).

No. 5 Williamsport 7, Tuscarora 3

FREDERICK, Md. - Alexis Fisher had two hits and two RBI as Williamsport beat Tuscarora.

Kelly Beard had a double and an RBI, while Felicia Bohn had a double for the Wildcats (4-1).

Jefferson 12, Goretti 0

SHENADOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Jefferson took advantage of nine Goretti errors, scoring 10 unearned runs en route to the victory over the Gaels (1-2).

Winters Mill 13, North 1

Ben Love had nine goals to lead Winters Mill over North Hagerstown.

Alex Henry scored North's lone goal and goalie Chuck Shirley recorded 20 saves for the Hubs (1-2).

TJ 12, Smithsburg 9

SMITHSBURG - Kevan Schellenberg had three goals and two assists for Smithsburg in a loss to Thomas Johnson.

Josh Ritchey had three goals and an assist, Craig Trueblood had three goals and John Anderson and Kyle Ritchey each had an assist for the Leopards.

SAINT JAMES - Caroline Salisbury had five goals and three assists to lead St. James over Madeira.

Jina Hontz had three goals and Courtney Peterson had a goal and two assists for the Saints, while Gina Clapp, Sarah Louderback and Mary Bacon each added a goal.

TJ 12, Smithsburg 8

FREDERICK, Md. - Lauren Kula scored three goals to lead Thomas Johnson over Smithsburg.

Amber Ford had three goals and an assist to lead Smithsburg.

Allyn Sailing had two goals and an assist, Sabrina Madsen, Monica Hovermale and Jade Tostanski each added a goal, and Arielle Alexander made seven saves for the Leopards (3-2).

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Taylor Amsley scored an unassisted goal in the second half and Katelyn Hornbaker made six saves for the shutout for James Buchanan.

Whitney Nave had five saves for Greencastle-Antrim.

Heritage 3, Calvary 0

Morgan McIntire scored three goals to lead Heritage Academy over Calvary Christian.

Taylor McIntire and Stephenie O'Brien each had an assist for the Eagles (2-2). Goalie Caroline Clarke recorded a shutout with six saves.

Shalom 3, New Life 2

FREDERICK, Md. - Emily Taylor scored two goals, Audree Perry added one and Alyssa Rohrer had three assists as Shalom Christian (3-0) came back from a 2-0 deficit against New Life Christian to gain an MDCC victory.
