Rams' McCarty honored

PRINCETON, W.Va. - Shepherd University senior pitcher Matt McCarty was named West Virginia Conference Tri-Pitcher of the Week, sharing the honor with D.J. Cannon of Seton Hill and Erik Sehnal of Charleston.

McCarty allowed two hits across two appearances totaling seven innings against Fairmont State, recoring a win and a save. He fanned six in five shutout innings to earn the victory, then shut the Falcons down for a two-inning save later in the four-game series. McCarty earned weekly conference accolades for the third time this season.


Shepherd eighth in region

WHEELING, W.Va. - Shepherd University finished eighth in the West Virginia Conference Northern Regional on the Speidel Course at Ogleby Resort.


The Rams posted a team stroke total of 316 on Monday following a 342 on Sunday.

Martinsburg graduate Trevor Hedges finished tied for 21st, shooting a 76 on Monday for a two-day 160.

Martinsburg senior games

On May 9-10, the Martinsburg Games for those age 50 and older will be held in Martinsburg, W.Va., and Shepherdstown, W.Va. Teams can be formed for basketball, volleyball, bowling or in foursomes for golf. Individuals can play tennis, swim or participate in track events. Registration is $25 and includes a pasta dinner May 8 and a victory dinner May 10 at the Moose lodge. Golf is an extra $25 but includes lunch at the golf course. Volunteers also are needed. Pump-N-Run 5K

The Chambersburg YMCA will hold the annual Pump-N-Run 5K race on May 31. There will be a 5K walk-run and a 1K youth race as well. The pump-n-run race includes bench pressing you body weight (or 60 percent for women) for total reps, which results in a time deduction for the run. Registration forms are available online at or at the Chambersburg YMCA courtesy desk. Race-day registration will be accepted.
