Smithsburg 3, Brunswick 1

SMITHSBURG - Bethany Garnand tossed a no-hitter as Smithsburg won its MVAL Antietam clash against Brunswick.

Garnand struck out 13, walked four and allowed only an unearned run in the fourth inning on a walk, sacrifice and two Leopards errors.

Smithsburg (5-2, 2-0) scored all three of its runs in the third inning. Singles by Katie Sprecher and Emily Bolton and an error loaded the bases, Paige Decker drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and T'Bony Jewell stroked a two-run single.

No. 3 Hedgesville 7-3, Sherando 1-0

SHERANDO, Va. - Sam Nazelrod had two hits, including a double, as Hedgesville beat Sherando in the opener of a doubleheader sweep.

Brittany Kolb had two hits and an RBI, while Jess Shirley had two hits for the Eagles (14-2).

In the nightcap, Nazelrod had two hits, while Kolb hit a two-run single.

No. 6 So. Fulton 6, Chestnut Ridge 5

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Natasha Bard had two hits and two RBIs, and Brooke Whiteside added two hits for the Indians.

Southern Fulton (4-0) held a 6-3 lead entering the seventh, but a two-run home run by Jess Neatrour closed the gap to 6-5. Chestnut Ridge got another runner on base before the Indians turned a 4-6-3 double play to quiet the rally.

Middletown 5, South 1

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Middletown took advantage of seven fielding errors by South Hagerstown to post an MVAL Piedmont victory.

Brittany Hyatt led the Rebels (3-4, 1-1) with two hits and an RBI, while Devin Giffin had two hits, including a triple.

No. 1 Jefferson 6, Musselman 2

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Andrew Rotruck and Stephen Peters scored two runs each as Jefferson beat Musselman.

Patrick Lewis had six strikeouts, while Brandon Campbell had five strikeouts for the Cougars (11-1).

Josh Slonaker had two hits for Musselman (7-6).

No. 4 South 8, Middletown 0

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Brandon Knight fired a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts as South Hagerstown blanked Middletown in MVAL Piedmont action to remain unbeaten.

Knight (1-0) surrendered the only hit during the fourth inning and did not walk a batter.

Steve Grossman broke a scoreless tie with a two-run single in the fourth. Grossman and Todd Jacobson each finished with two hits for the Rebels (4-0, 2-0).

Middletown dropped to 1-5, 0-2.

No. 5 Martinsburg 8, No. 6 Hedgesville 3

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Eli Fulk allowed one hit through five innings with six strikeouts as Martinsburg beat Hedgesville.

Brandon King had two hits, Zach Woolcock had an RBI single and Ryan Bennett hit a two-run homer for the Bulldogs (10-4).

Zack Layhew, a freshman making his first varsity start, gave up one hit in four innings for the Eagles (7-4).

St. Maria Goretti 10, Hancock 3

HANCOCK - Alex Zoretich had two hits and four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the first inning, to lead St. Maria Goretti over Hancock.

J.J. O'Neill had two hits and three RBIs, while David Bowen added two hits for the Gaels (5-5).

Dan Mauck led Hancock (3-4) with two hits, accounting for all three RBIs with a home run in the fifth inning.

Brunswick 2, Smithsburg 1

SMITHSBURG - Josh Conway had 11 strikeouts for the Leopards, but it was't enough as Brunswick earned a road victory over Smithsburg in the MVAL Antietam.

Brandon Knight had a double and an RBI for the Leopards (2-2, 0-2).

So. Fulton 3, Chestnut Ridge 2

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Justin Berks lead a seventh-inning comeback with two doubles and Jesse Smartt added an RBI as Southern Fulton defeated Chesnut Ridge.

Colt Redman (2-0) pitched a complete game, recording six strikeouts for the Indians (2-1).

Heritage 9, Broadfording 7

Andrew Hendershot had three hits as Heritage Academy beat Broadfording.

Travis Barthalow homered for the Eagles (2-0).

Zach Snodderly, Steve Fogleman and Matt South had two hits each for the Lions (1-5).
