Boonsboro's mayor to run for re-election

April 08, 2008

BOONSBORO - Boonsboro Mayor Charles F. "Skip" Kauffman Jr. announced Monday that he will run for re-election in the town's May 13 election.

There are two open seats: mayor and councilman.

Councilman Ray Grove, 61, said Monday that he has decided not to seek re-election. Grove has served a total of 16 years on the town council, he said.

He took over in 2006 for former Councilman William L. Tritapoe, who resigned.

"I just think it's time for somebody else," Grove said about his decision not to run again. "I'd like to spend more time with my family."

The deadline to file as a candidate is Monday.

In a memo issued April 4, town officials said a newsletter sent to town residents on April 1 included the incorrect date for the town's election. It stated the election would be May 12, but it will be May 13.
