MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Autopsy results are pending in Saturday's shooting death of 25-year-old Shannon Raye Engle, a West Virginia State Police spokesman said Monday.
The Martinsburg woman's body was sent to the medical examiner's offices in Charleston, W.Va., 1st Sgt. Eric Burnett said.
"We should have the preliminary stuff sometime this week," Burnett said.
When asked whether the shooting was being investigated as a homicide, Burnett categorized the efforts of law enforcement as a "suspicious death" investigation.
Police were called to the area behind Wal-Mart for shots fired at about 3:50 a.m., according to a news release.
Engle's husband pointed a trooper to the victim's mobile home at 305 Mall Drive, where the woman was found in a back bedroom, the news release stated.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 304-267-0001.
