Convention and Visitors Bureau

Betsy De Vore, director of sales for the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, joined with members of the state's Office of Tourism and met with more than 30 bus-tour operators in February at the American Bus Association's (ABA) Marketplace in Virginia Beach, Va.

Neighbors 1st Federal Credit Union

Feb. 29 was the last day as chief executive officer/manager of Neighbors 1st Federal Credit Union for Patricia Shew. She started in 1981 as manager of the Frick Federal Credit Union when it was in the basement of an old building on the Frick Company property along Main Street in Waynesboro.

The credit union had only 180 members and $100,000 in assets; members' ledgers were hand posted; and cash was not available. The only loans were Signature or Car Loans, and the only accounts were Savings and Christmas Clubs. The credit union is now a full-service financial institution with more than 1,900 members.


Property Management People Inc.

FREDERICK, Md. - Michael A. Stracka, facilities manager for Property Management People Inc., CountrySide office, was named certified manager of community associations by the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers. Stracka joins only 3,100 certified managers of community associations nationwide who are certified to manage condominium, cooperative and homeowners' associations.

Stracka, of Hagerstown, joined Property Management People Inc. in October 2005 and has 19 years of facilities experience.

State of Maryland

Deputy Michael Mattingly, a three-year veteran of the Office of the State Fire Marshal, has been honored as the Western Region Deputy State Fire Marshal of the Year for 2007.

In 2007, Mattingly conducted 26 initial fire investigations, seven of which were criminal in nature and resulted in seven arrests. In 2007, Mattingly succeeded in closing 73 percent of his investigations, a percentage much greater than the national average. He also conducted 228 fire safety inspections and assisted with numerous other investigations and inspections.

Mattingly, an Allegany County native, has more than 35 combined years of law enforcement experience.

Zavos Architecture+Design LLC

FREDERICK, Md. - Hannah Kaufman of Zavos Architecture+Design LLC recently completed her National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exams.

She is now a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the leading professional organization for interior designers. Kaufman has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in interior architecture from Longwood University and specializes in creating unique interior and space designs.

Zavos Architecture+Design, LLC has an office in Frederick.


Millennium Financial Group Inc., doing business as Mlend, appointed Tyler Buckalew as mortgage consultant effective March 3. He has three years of sales and sales management experience and will work at the Shepherdstown, W.Va., branch.

Prudential FranklinAssociates Realtors

Prudential Franklin Associates Realtors announced real estate agents Kevin Cohick of Chambersburg, Pa., and Cindy Coldsmith of Shippensburg, Pa., as top agents for the month of February.

Both joined the company in 2007. Each previously owned their own businesses.

San Mar Children's Home

Mironda Peace is the new technology education specialist at San Mar Children's Home. She works with San Mar's on-grounds school, instructing at-risk girls in residence in computer applications.

Peace has a master's degree in library science and a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. She has experience as an elementary and public school librarian.

Woodbury Financial Services Inc.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Eric Shank, a Woodbury Financial Services financial professional, has been elevated to Woodbury Financial Services' Eagle's Circle.

The Eagle's Circle is Woodbury Financial Services' reward and recognition program, intended to honor those Woodbury Financial representatives who push their performance.

Shank has more than 12 years of experience in the financial services industry, and holds the investment adviser representative designations and licenses.

Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown

The Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown recognizes Troy Englehart, correctional officer sergeant, as employee of the month for his work during the time he was assigned supervising segregation inmates. Englehart was instrumental in coordinating and scheduling segregation showers. He worked in conjunction with the Unit No. 4 manager in maintaining control of the unit, providing intelligence and resolving matters.

Englehart has worked for the state since 1998.
