Shepherd adds six

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University announced the signing of six recruits on Friday: Wide receiver Jeff Babich (Cumberland, Md.), wide receiver Doug Davis (Stephens City, Va.), offensive lineman Cory Jubb (White Hall, Md.), quarterback Travis Orange (Cumberland, Md.), quarterback Ricky Schultz (Ellicott City, Md.) and linebacker Christopher Stanton (Salem, W.Va.).

Tri-State FCA report

* The 16U Avengers won the MVSA Invitational in Germantown, Md., finishing with a 9-5 record.  They were led by Kara Henson (Middletown, 28 kills), Alyssa Brandt (Clear Spring, 15 kills, 6 aces, 28 digs), Caitlin Breslin (St. Maria Goretti, 13 kills), Kayla Myers (Smithsburg, 12 kills, 5 aces), Aerial Munson (Hedgesville, 31 assists, 10 aces), Emily Everson (Martinsburg, 26 assists) and Sarah Swope (Goretti, 50 digs, 7 kills).

The Avengers went 2-4 in the Kinetic VBC Invitational. Taylor Belella (Smithsburg) had 13 digs.

* The 18U Guardians finished second at the Gettysburg Blast Tournament, finishing 8-4. They were led by Rebecca Morgan (Grace Academy, 26 kills, 6 aces, 6 blocks), Brynne Eaton (Tuscarora, 11 kills, 20 blocks), Katie Koontz (Williamsport, 15 kills, 8 blocks), Katie Gantz (Boonsboro, 19 kills), Tara Garver (Boonsboro, 55 assists, 12 kills, 8 aces, 4 blocks) and Lindsay Kneisley (Williamsport, 17 assists).

* The 17U Eagles also competed in Gettysburg and finished with a 3-4 record. They were led by Emily Pinkham (Clear Spring, 22 kills, 6 aces), Lacee Hershberger (Williamsport, 10 kills, 7 aces, 20 digs), Kara Rudisill (Grace Academy, 7 kills, 7 aces), Alyssa Toth (Waynesboro, 10 kills), Megan Plume (North Hagerstown, 52 assists, 9 kills) and Brittany Smetzer (Clear Spring, 28 digs).

* The 15U Halos played in the 16U tourney at Gettysburg, finishing 4-5. They were led by Sara Rishell (Smithsburg, 17 kills, 7 aces, 11 blocks), Lily Pinkham (Clear Spring, 14 kills, 4 aces, 4 blocks), Megan Micco (Clear Spring, 5 kills, 5 aces, 11 digs), Erin Garns (Greencastle, 28 assists), Taylor Belella (17 assists, 7 kills, 5 aces), Paige Kitchen (Williamsport, 7 digs) and Trisha Leigh (Williamsport, 7 digs).

* The 14U Saints competed in the Mizuno/FCA March Madness Tournament and finished 1-7. They were led by Hanna DeJarnett (Martinsburg, 7 kills, 11 aces), Abigail Worsforld (Broadfording, 5 kills), Samantha Roberts (Grace Academy, 4 aces, 9 assists), Lorna Mullins (Clear Spring, 5 aces), Emily Winters (Clear Spring, 11 digs) and Rachel Yoder (Smithsburg, 5 aces).


Chambersburg YMCA programs

The following programs are being offered at the Chambersburg YMCA this spring:

* Ultimate Frisbee League: Scheduled to begin April 20 and run through July 31. League play will be held Sunday afternoons from 2-6 p.m. at Falling Spring Elementary School. * Fun, Fun, Fun, & Fit: Organized fitness conditioning for children in grades 3-7. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. Cost is $12 per family member, $32 per youth member and $45 per non-member.
