Hagerstown police investigate report of shots fired

Hagerstown police this morning were investigating a report of shots fired in the Park Place area.

Residents informed officers they heard five rounds fired at about 5 a.m. Friday, police said in a news release.

Officers found five empty 9-mm shell casings on the ground in front of 441 Park Place.

Police couldn't find any victims, and nothing appeared to have been damaged, officers said.

Theft cases reported Thursday in Washington County

The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to the following incidents Thursday, according to Lt. Mark Knight:

· At noon, theft was reported in the 20000 block of Wilderness Run Road. About $400 in ladders were stolen.

· At 1 p.m., theft was reported in the 14000 block of Cearfoss Pike. Jewelry was stolen from a home.

· At 4 p.m., theft was reported at Boonsboro Transmission in the 7000 block of Old National Pike. About $1,000 worth of tools were stolen.

Md. woman charged in Martinsburg car-ramming incident

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Police charged a Maryland woman with reckless driving and other crimes Thursday after a dispute with her boyfriend escalated and she rammed her car into his, Maryland police said.

An officer traveling on North Queen Street observed the collision in a parking lot in the 1200 block of that street, police said in a news release.

Hedy A. Henderson, 37, of Hanover, Md., and her boyfriend had been arguing over money when she threw her keys and kicked his car, police alleged.

She rammed her car into his as he was leaving, then tried to leave the scene as an officer arrived, police said.

Henderson was also charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

Martinsburg man, 86, missing after visiting wife at Charles Town hospital

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Police were searching this morning for a missing man.

Johan Bergouist, 86, left Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Charles Town, W.Va. Thursday afternoon after visiting his wife, Martinsburg police said in a news release.

He had told hospital staff he would return shortly.

By 4:15 this morning, Bergouist had not returned to the hospital and had not been in contact with members of his family, police said

Bergouist was described as white, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, with gray hair and blue eyes. He drives a 2003 maroon Ford Focus station wagon with West Virginia tags. He may be confused and in need of medication for health-related issues, police said.

Hagerstown woman arrested after leaving baby in vehicle

A Hagerstown woman was arrested Thursday after she left an 18-month-old girl unattended in a vehicle, Washington County Sheriff's Department deputies said in a news release.

Alicia Sue Halstead, 23, of 424 N. Locust St., was charged with leaving a child unattended, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, deputies said.

The department got a call at about 6:20 p.m. that there was a small child unattended and crying in a locked vehicle in the parking lot of Foxshire Plaza on Dual Highway, deputies said. Before deputies arrived, Halstead returned to the vehicle and took the child inside, deputies said.

Halstead told deputies she left the girl in the vehicle while she went into the Famous pawn shop and thought it was no big deal, according to the news release.

Five arrested in Washington County drug investigations

Five people were arrested this week in three separate drug investigations by the Washington County Narcotics Task Force, according to news releases issued Thursday.

· Three people were arrested Thursday after they conspired to distribute crack cocaine to a confidential narcotics informant at the Waterin' Hole Tavern at 15 E. Baltimore St., Sgt. Fred Wolford said. Clifford Lee Staley, 39, of Hagerstown; Gerald William Phillips, 45, of no fixed address; and Thomas Andrew Coplin, 29, of Baltimore, each were charged with distribution of crack cocaine, conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, conspiracy to possess crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia, Wolford said.

· Eugene Russell Lattisaw, also known as "DC," was arrested Tuesday during a sale of crack cocaine to a confidential narcotics informant, Wolford said. Lattisaw, 25, of Hagerstown, was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to distribute a large amount of crack cocaine, Wolford said.

· Cordaryl Dominic Cook, 21, of Hagerstown, was arrested Monday after a sale of $200 worth of marijuana to a confidential narcotics informant, Wolford said. Cook was charged with distribution of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

W.Va. man found slumped over in car faces drug charges
