Stolen Dale Earnhardt cutout returned to Frederick convenience store

FREDERICK, Md. -- A 5-foot-tall cardboard cutout of the late NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt stolen from a convenience store in Frederick was returned to the store Wednesday evening, Maryland State Police said.

One of three men who were seen in video survelliance images when the item was stolen in mid-March returned it to the Wawa store at 6:45 p.m., state police said.

The store was auctioning off the display to benefit Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore. The last bid for the display was $500, police said.

Police said a suspect has been identified and the investigation is continuing.
