FREDERICK, Md. - Brittany Hyatt went 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs and Sarah Mertz hit a grand slam as South Hagerstown overpowered Frederick 20-2 in five innings Wednesday in MVAL Piedmont action.

Chelsea Showe (3-3) pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and Desiree Giffin had two hits and scored four runs for the Rebels (3-3). Mertz also finished with two hits.

Chestnut Ridge 5, McConnellsburg 0

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Sam McQuade had two of McConnellsburg's three hits, including a triple, in the Sideling Hill League loss to Chestnut Ridge.

Century 4, Boonsboro 1

SYKESVILLE, Md. - Becky Young had two hits for Boonsboro in the loss to Century.

Bridgette Ringley and Lauren Abbott combined for seven strikeouts for the Warriors (2-2).

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Sarah Duda had four hits for Mercersburg Academy (1-1) in the loss to Jefferson.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Jess Shirley had three hits, including two doubles, as Hedgesville pounded Hampshire.

Brittany Kolb had two hits, including a triple, and three RBI, while Chelsie Oals had two hits, including a double, for the Eagles (12-2).

Brunswick 9, Goretti 5

Katie Marrama had three hits, including a two-run home run, and five RBIs for St. Maria Goretti in a loss to Brunswick.

Caroline Rosenthal had eight strikeouts, while Gabby Turano had two hits for the Gaels (0-1).

FREDERICK, Md. - Todd Jacobson had three hits and two RBIs as South Hagerstown came back from a 5-0 first-inning deficit to beat previously unbeaten Frederick in MVAL Piedmont action.

Tim Leather (2-0) overcame a shaky start to pitch a complete game for the Rebels (3-0, 1-0). Tim Hamilton, Adrian Adams and Brandon Knight each had two hits in the win.

Boonsboro 15, Century 4

SYKESVILLE, Md. - Jared Ferguson had two hits, including a two-run homer, four RBIs and three runs scored as Boonsboro beat Century.

Seth Poffenberger had three hits, including a solo home run, three stolen bases, two RBIs and three runs scored, and Jake Pendergraft also homered for the Warriors (2-2).

Goretti 9, Brunswick 3

BRUNSWICK, Md. - J.J. O'Neill and Nic Martin had two hits each as St. Maria Goretti beat Brunswick (4-1).

Jay Donoghue, Will Murray, Dan Rost and Alex Zoretich had two RBIs each for the Gaels (3-5).

WINCHESTER, Va. - Mike Ferrari had an RBI single for Hedgesville (7-3) in the loss to James Wood (4-1).

North 9, Middletown 1

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Cody Nelling capped a five-run second inning with a three-run homer to lead North Hagerstown past Middletown in the MVAL Piedmont.

Kyle Hoffman picked up the victory for North (1-2, 1-1), going 5 2-3 innings with 10 strikeouts.

Brendan Palmer led the Hubs with three hits, Colby Fisher had two hits and Jimmy Hill and John Courtney drove in two runs each.
