WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Troopers on Wednesday were investigating a burglary that turned into an assault at a home in the 10000 block of Sharpsburg Pike, Maryland State Police said.

Several burglars forced their way into the home and were taking electronic equipment when a 16-year-old friend of the family arrived at the home, troopers said in a news release.

The burglars assaulted and robbed the boy, who was not injured, troopers said Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the burglars drove away, traveling north on Md. 65. They took several firearms and other property from the home, troopers said.

Investigators declined to release a description of the burglars.

On Wednesday morning, Maryland State Police cruisers lined the driveway of 10003 Sharpsburg Pike, where the burglary occurred. The home is set apart from the road, behind a field across from the Food Lion in the Saint James shopping center.
