Greening of Byron Memorial Park

Council member Jeff Cline and Emily Cooper of the Maryland Forest Service would like to thank the many volunteers who showed up Saturday to help plant trees and bushes for the Greening of Byron Memorial Park in Williamsport.

36th PE program coming up at WES

Students in grades 4 and 5 have been working hard for the past three months during after-school practices.

The PE program will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Williamsport Elementary School in the gym/cafeteria.

There will be a lot of different activities that will be performed for everyone. Some of these activities are balance activities warm-up, tumbling, Hula Hoops, parachute and equipment. Come out and support these students trying their best and flexing their muscles.

Williamsport Youth Soccer kickoff

The spring season for Williamsport Youth Soccer starts Saturday at Springfield Middle School.

Pancake breakfast

Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Tickets cost $5 per person. The menu consists of eggs, sausage (two pieces) pancakes, hash brown potatoes, fruit cup, coffee and juice.

Potpie dinner

An all-you-care-to-eat ham and chicken slippery potpie dinner will be served Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Calvary Temple Church, 147 S. Conococheague St.

Tickets cost $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children 3 to 12. The meal includes drink and beverage.

Basket bingo

Past Pocahontas cash and basket bingo will be Sunday at the Williamsport Red Men Club.

Doors open at 11 a.m. with dinner being served at noon. Bingo starts at 1 p.m. Call Lyz Bowers at 304-274-3244 or Cheryl Watts at 304-258-5043 to reserve your tickets. Tickets costs $20 in advance or $25 at the door. You must be 18 years or older to participate. Ticket includes chicken dinner and drinks. A bake sale will also be available.

TOPS Chapter 454

As a kickoff to TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 454's contest "April Showers Bring May Flowers," leader Pat Saunders presented a program on "100 Tips for Changing Your Life."

She said small changes can reap big rewards.

Each member will start with an empty flower bed and work toward winning flowers to fill it as part of the new contest.

Hoedown meeting

A Harvest Hoedown meeting will be Thursday, April 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church.

The Harvest Hoedown is the annual fundraising event, sponsored by the Williamsport Ministerium to benefit the Williamsport Food Bank.

The committee would like to renew this event, adding new things and needs your ideas and enthusiasm. Please plan to attend.

'Wizard of Oz'

The WHS Theatre Department and the Sophisti'Cats will present eight shows of "The Wizard of Oz," directed by Ruth A. Ridenour, at WHS on April 11, 12 and 13 and April 18, 19 and 20. Friday and Saturday evening performances start at 7:30 p.m., Saturday matinees start at 2 p.m. and Sunday matinees start at 2:30 p.m.

Springfield marks 30th anniversary

Springfield Middle School will be celebrating its 30th anniversary on Saturday, May 3, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Please join the school in celebrating this special day.

There are many events planned for the morning, starting with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m., hosted by the school's Musical Theatre Group.

Springfield's Chamber Choir, Jazz Band and Orchestra will give special performances. A Kid's Corner will feature temporary tattoos, and face painting by the school's art teacher.

There will be a special "River Rat" dedication at 10 a.m. by the phys ed department and also a Green Team Tree dedication.

In addition, there will be a book fair in the media center. Student Government and PTA will also have activities and displays. School building replicas will be available for purchase.

Classic car show

The second annual Town Employee Classic Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show will be Saturday, May 10, (rain date May 11), in Byron Memorial Park.

The event is is open to all makes and models. Registration costs $10. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and ends at noon.
