W.Va. man arrested on child support, heroin charges

April 01, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 25-year-old man who authorities said owes $19,205 in child support was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of failing to pay the money and two other felony counts stemming from a drug deal orchestrated by police in 2007, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Gary Christopher Riley of 62 Forest View Drive, Kearneysville, W.Va., was arraigned on charges of failure to provide support for a minor child and delivery of and conspiracy to deliver a Schedule II narcotic (heroin). Magistrate Harry L. Snow set a $25,000 bond, according to court records.

The woman owed the child support told police last month she had not received any payment since April 2006, according to a complaint filed by Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Deputy Lt. Gary Harmison.

In a separate complaint, Harmison said the defendant sold $200 worth of heroin to an informant in the parking lot of a small business off Middleway Pike in southern Berkeley County on May 11, 2007, according to court records.
