"I caught Commissioner Aleshire at the city council meeting Tuesday night. His speech just goes to prove how little the commissioner pays attention to what's going on in his community. Many people called in about the Taj Mahal that the county had bought at Phoenix Color for the inmates, and Tim Rowland even ran an editorial on why did we spend the money. Mr. Aleshire needs to pay more attention to what's happening with the people in his community before he goes and shoots his mouth off." - Hagerstown
"For everyone complaining about the new shopping center at U.S. 40 and I-70: Wouldn't you probably be among the first to enjoy a meal at the new restaurants or shop at the new wholesale club? The new Lowe's on Leitersburg Pike is always crowded, and you can barely get into the Olive Garden. So obviously people in Hagerstown do enjoy new shopping centers and restaurants. Not only would it bring new jobs, it would bring recognition to Hagerstown for other companies - companies that might bring in higher-paying jobs. Just some food for thought." - Hagerstown
"I am calling from the Pleasant Valley area. I live off of Valley Overlook Court, Valley Road in Knoxville, Md. Calling in reference to the recent article concerning the 190-foot microwave tower that's going to be placed in Sandy Hook. Not sure if other residents were ever aware of this, but I was not, and I'm actually wanting to address the concerns I have concerning visual pollution and possible future health concerns. I fully understand the importance of the tower; however, I believe that the county should have looked at alternative sites before making the decision to place the tower in the proposed location."
"I think it's terrible that these correctional officers are put on administrative leave for excessive force. These are people who have committed a crime and deserve to be in prison. Are they to be handled with kid gloves? They have all the rights, and the guards have none. This is not right." - Hagerstown
"Here we go - another shopping mall. That's just what this county needs, more work, everything on the roads, tearing up the roads, tearing up the highways. Most retail jobs pay about $7 to $8 an hour with no benefits, getting people to spend more credit cards, use their credit cards more, and don't have the money to pay what they owe now." - Williamsport
"I cannot believe the number of calls complaining about the closure of the bridge into Funkstown. There are four other roads leading into and out of Funkstown that do not include Oak Ridge Drive. Instead of whining about the bridge repairs, I don't understand why these people don't choose another route. This is not rocket science. Come on, folks." - Hagerstown
"In response to the person who said the new 9,000 jobs at the shopping center wouldn't be worth it: How do you know? How do you know that these jobs would have no benefits and would be parttime? Yes, most would be retail-type jobs, which don't pay the best. But, they would be jobs. Plus, having this type of shopping center might draw bigger companies with better-paying jobs to the area. If we just stay the same in Hagerstown, then no one benefits. At least this shopping center would provide 9,000 jobs, period." - Hagerstown
"I'm definitely gonna call my legislators and ask them to ban any type of texting or cell phone talking while driving. This is the last time, I hope, I almost get hit by someone talking on the phone and weaving in and out of traffic. I won't go into details, but this individual could not stay in their lane, and crossed over into my lane several times." - Hagerstown
"Shame on Washington County. That tower meeting in South County was undemocratic and arrogant. How dare you forbid citizen comments at a public meeting? Absolutely shameful." - Sharpsburg
