More than 200 YMCAs nationwide have adopted the concept for Black Achievers, which strives to link successful minority professionals with youth in a mentoring climate.
This year's adult achievers serve as those mentors and role models to the area teen achievers.
· Ed Dorsey is plant manager of GBC Films Group in Hagerstown and has been instrumental in setting up plants in Europe, Asia and elsewhere in North America.
Involved in youth sports, Dorsey was president of the Hagerstown Black Achievers for three years. He is praise and worship team leader at the Church of Christ at Hagerstown.
· Angela Rollins has worked for First Data for 22 years and is currently a production support analyst manager.
Her community activities include being a board member at Memorial Recreation Center, working with the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship and she is active at Greater Campher Temple.
· Dr. Kia Tisdale is a Texas native who came to Washington County in 2006 to accept a medical practice at Women's Specialty Associates at Robinwood Medical Center.
She has been active in women's health forums and serves as medical adviser on the Sisters Helping Sisters board.
The program is open to students in grades 7 to 12, exposing them to educational, career and social opportunities otherwise not available to them.
Mitchell pointed out that 65 percent of teens involved in the Black Achievers go on to college.
