Healing circle

FREDERICK, Md. - A healing circle meets from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at Unity Church in Frederick, 1 W. Ninth St.

The healing circle offers reiki and other stress releasing, energy balancing and healing techniques. For information, call 301-846-0868.

Series on caring for the aging and ill

Taking Care: Helping an Aging or Ill Loved One is a four part series presented from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays during April. A light meal will be provided for a cost of $7 per session. Vegan and vegetarian cooking demos

Vegetarian's Pursuit CafÃ© will hold health and nutritional classes that include vegan and vegetarian cooking demonstrations at the Review and Herald Publishing Association, 55 W. Oak Ridge Drive, Hagerstown.

Seminars are on Mondays, April 7 and 14, Tuesdays, April 8 and 15, and Thursdays, April 10 and 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Registration costs $40. Call 301-393-3082.

Study for women with breast cancer

CHEVY CHASE, Md. - Research is underway at Chevy Chase Healthcare Management to evaluate the effectiveness of an oral agent in combination with chemotherapy as first-line treatment in women with breast cancer that has spread (metastasized) to other parts of the body.

The study is open to women who have tested negative for overexpression of the HER2 gene and who have not previously been treated with chemotherapy for their locally recurrent or metastatic disease.

To be considered for the study, individuals must be at least 18 years old, and have a diagnosis of HER2 negative, locally recurrent or metastatic breast cancer that has not yet been treated with chemotherapy.
