Five people charged during Hagerstown sobriety checkpoint



Five people were arrested during a sobriety checkpoint operation on U.S. 40 in Hagerstown Friday night, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

The checkpoint, at Crest View Road, began at 10:45 p.m., police said. During the operation, 577 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, 10 vehicles were pulled over, two people were arrested for DUI and one person was arrested on an outstanding warrant, troopers said.

Two additional DUI arrests were made by troopers patrolling the immediate area around the checkpoint, the department said.




Hancock driver faces charges after I-68 crash



HANCOCK - A Hancock resident was flown to the hospital after a crash on I-68 west of Hancock early Saturday, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

The driver lost control of a vehicle at about 2 a.m. near Woodmont Road, left the roadway, and struck an embankment, police said.

The driver was treated at Washington County Hospital and released, and was later charged with DUI and other traffic offenses, police said.
