'My Dog Can Do That' competition a benefit to shelter

The March "My Dog Can Do That" competition offered by Peaceable Paws Dog and Puppy Training on March 21 drew 14 canine competitors and more than 30 humans.

The event was a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Washington County.

The winners of the contest are as follows:

First place - Ann Ford of Hagerstown and her border collie Jennie; second place, winner of tie/run-off - Karin Fellers, Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and her border collie Kip; third place - Bryan Ervin, Hagerstown, and his hound mix Harley.

This was month three of a yearlong tournament event. Each first-place win earns five points, second place earns three points, and third place earns one point toward the year-end totals. The top 10 point winners at the end of the year will be invited to compete in the Championship Final Event in December.

Standings are as follows: 8 points, Dawn Free of Thurmont, Md., and her Labrador retriever, Rowdy; 8 points, Louann Howard, Hagerstown, and her dachsund, Annabelle; 6 points, Ann Ford and Jennie; 4 points, Karin Fellers and Kip; 1 point, Bryan Ervin and Harley.


Cost to compete is $10 per dog. All nonaggressive dogs are welcome. Only positive handling methods may be used; flat collars and harnesses are allowed, while choke chains, prong collars and choke collars are not.
