I-81 reopens following accident

March 21, 2008

Interstate 81 south of the Pennsylvania line in the area of Washington County Airport has been reopened following an accident in which a tractor-trailer tanker overturned in the northbound lane, Maryland State Police said.

The tanker was empty.

The driver, Jonathan Redding of Chambersburg, Pa. was taken to Washington County Hospital after the accident, troopers said in a news release.

Police said Redding lost control of the rig while trying to slow for other traffic on the interstate and the tractor and trailer skidded off the roadway onto the northbound roadside before overturning.

Redding was wearing the available seatbelt and shoulder harness, police said.

The tractor and trailer was a 2003 International owned by Rudy Leasing LTD of Frederick, Md., police said.
