Strauss selected as writing finalist

John Strauss, son of Albert and Kelli Strauss of Geeting Road in Keedysville, was selected as a Maryland state finalist in the Letters About Literature writing contest, which is sponsored by the Library of Congress.

He is the single finalist from Hagerstown in the fourth- to sixth-grade category.

This signature program of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress inspires young people to write to an author of a book that has somehow changed their worldview or themselves.

John wrote to Franklin W. Dixon, author of "The Mystery of the Missing Chums." John is a fourth-grade student in the Magnet Program at Emma K. Doub Elementary.
