Speakers and topics at area churches

St. John's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Stephanie Yancy will preach Sunday at the 8 and 10:15 a.m. services.

The Liturgy of the Palms will be read at the early service and sung in procession at the later service, which also features the parish choir.

Sunday school classes for all ages and the adult forum begin at 9 a.m.




St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Sunday at the 8:15 chapel service and 10:30 a.m. communion service, Pastor Quentin Fleming will be preaching on the topic, After the Parade.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:15 a.m.

Lenten midweek services Wednesday at 7 p.m. will feature Pastor Tom Perry speaking on The Shadow of the Cloud of Witnesses.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, Pastor Torben Aarsand will be celebrant at the 8, 9 and 11 a.m. services Sunday. Richard Hershey will narrate the reading of St. Matthew's Passion.

St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, the Rev. Mark Mooney will be speaking on the topic, Bad Choice, at the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday. Mooney and the puppets will also give a children's sermon.

Sunday school is at 10:45 a.m.




First Baptist Church, Sunday, the topic at the 11 a.m. service is What to Do with your Branches.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m.




St. Catherine Eastern Orthodox Church, vespers are tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Father Dennis Buck will speak at the 10 a.m. Divine Liturgy of Orthodox Sunday. Church school is at 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday at 7 p.m. is the Litany of the Presanctified Gifts, followed by a meal.




St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Hancock, Sunday morning services at 7:30 will feature communion and blessing of the palms, and at 10 a.m., communion, the Litury of Palm Sunday and the reading of the Passion gospel.

Church school is at 11:15 a.m.

Monday and Tuesday of Holy Week will feature quiet communion each night at 7:30.

The service and Sunday school begin at 9 a.m. in the old Williamsport Ambulance Co. building beside the post office.

Bible study on Wednesdays is at 7 p.m. at the ambulance hall.




Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, Pastor Tim Ritchey Martin will speak at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday on the topic, What Wondrous Love.

Grace Brethren Church, 250 Philadelphia Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., the Rev. Larry Weber will speak at the 10:40 a.m. service Sunday. The topic is King Jesus, Gentle Prophet.

Wednesday Bible Study and Prayer is at 1 and 7 p.m.




River of Life Family Worship Center, 12312 Orebank Road, Clear Spring, the Winebrenners will be featured Sunday at 10 a.m.




Zion United Church of Christ, the Rev. Robert Royal will speak at the 11 a.m. service Sunday on the topic, The Temptation to Run is a Sign of Spiritual Crisis.

Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m.




Calvary Grace Brethren Church, the Rev. Doug Courter will speak at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday on the topic, When Friends Become Enemies.

Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m. There will be no evening service.

Tuesday Bible study is at 10 a.m. Wednesday youth programs begin at 6:30 p.m.




Pikeside United Methodist Church, Paynes Ford Road and U.S. 11, Martinsburg, W.Va., the Rev. Thomas Young is speaking on the topic, Cut Down and Lifted Up, at the 8:30 and 10:35 a.m. Sunday services.

Marion (Pa.) First United Methodist Church, 94 Colorado St., an egg hunt today for children will begin at 1 p.m.

On Palm Sunday, there will be special music by the bell choir at the 10:30 a.m. service.




Christ Reformed Church, 304 E. German St., Shepherdstown, W.Va., the Rev. Bronson Staley will speak on the topic, What's Your Answer to Who Is This Jesus?, at the 11 a.m. service Sunday.
