COCOA, Fla. - Hagerstown Community College scored five runs in the first without benefit of a hit and backed it up with an eight-run fourth on Monday for a 15-0 victory in 4 1/2 innings over the Thornhill Reds at the Coaco Expo.

The Reds, a Canadian team, issued five walks and committed an error to give HCC a 5-0 win at the end of the first.

The Hawks (7-2-1) put the game out of reach in the fourth by battng around. Tommy Evans had two singles and three RBIs in the inning and Brian Nese added a two-run triple.

Matt Greene had two hits and and RBI while pitchers Kyle Briggs, Craig Haupt, David Plank and Kenny Feigley combined on a two-hitter with two strikeouts and no walks.

Rams 10th in region

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Shepherd University is ranked No. 10 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA II North Atlantic Regional Poll. The Rams are 4-4 after taking two of three games with Bloomsburg last week.

Rams pair honored

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University second baseman Drew McCormick and pitcher Matt McCarty gained weekly recognition from the West Virginia Conference.

McCormick was named WVIAC Player of the Week, while McCarty earned WVIAC Pitcher of the Week accolades.

McCormick batted .500 in five contests last week, with two home runs and a triple among his eight hits along with eight RBIs and six runs scored.

McCarty is honored for the second straight week after picking up a win against Bloomsburg. He pitched six shutout innings, while allowing two hits and striking out eight, while scattering two hits.

Bulldogs win division playoff title

LAUREL, Md. - The Hagerstown Bulldogs, a Pee Wee team in the CBHL, won the Wales Division playoff championship Sunday with a 6-3 win over the Virgina Wild.

Travis Biggs and Brian Dickman scored two goals each, while Kyle Omar, Andrew Green also scored. Colyn Heim two assists, while Thomas Papastravrou, Christian Sheeley, Jeffrey Morrison, R.J. Young had one assist each.

Hagerstown advanced to the finals by defeating the Northern Virginia Ice Dogs 4-2 on Saturday in the semifinals. Morrison had two goals, while Matt Stemper and Josh Barron added one score each. Papastravrou had two assists, while Bryce Reeder, Heim and Sheeley each had assists.

The Bulldogs were 14-4 in the regular season to earn a berth in the playoffs.

The Bulldogs roster consists of: Jeremy Benda, Zach El-Mohandes, Morgan Kenworthy, Michael DiMercurio, Sean Kreps along with Omar, Barron, Green, Biggs, Dickman, Reeder, Stemper, Papastavrou, Sheeley, Young, Heim, and Morrison.

The team was coached by Jim Blaylock, along with assistants Jeff Biggs, Ken Heim and Doug Stemper.
