CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was killed Friday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Fifth Avenue in Chambersburg, according to the Chambersburg Police Department and Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner.

Mark A. Olson, 23, of 714 Mahantango Drive, died in the 12:35 a.m. accident in the 600 block of Fifth Avenue, between Norland Avenue and Grant Street, Conner said. Olson was driving a late-model Chevrolet Suburban that struck a utility pole across Fifth Avenue from the TB Wood's plant, he said.

Olson, who was not wearing a seat belt, died of multiple blunt force injuries, Conner said. There will be no autopsy, he said.

Olson was alone in the Suburban, Conner said.

The police department called its Major Accident Investigation Team to the scene. The section of Norland Avenue where the crash occurred was closed for about 10 hours.

The investigating officers were not available to answer questions Friday afternoon, police said.

"He was a good, happy-go-lucky kid. He loved people, and he loved to play games," said Olson's father, Gary. "He loved playing sports of all kinds."

Olson was a 2002 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, where he played on the soccer, basketball and baseball teams, his father said. After attending Allegany Community College, he worked as a cement truck driver for Valley Quarries in Chambersburg, he said.

Gary Olson said his son was born in California and had lived in Chambersburg since 1994. Mark Olson went to Florida last year to work and returned to Chambersburg last fall, his father said.

In addition to his father, survivors include his mother, Mary A. Rose Olson, and brothers, Jared W. and Trenton Olson, according to his obituary.
