Firefighters battle blaze in Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT - Several local fire companies responded to a house fire Friday night in Williamsport, a Washington County Emergency Services dispatcher said.

No one was injured.

The fire was reported in a duplex at 45 and 47 W. Salisbury St. about 8:30 p.m., the dispatcher said.

Fire companies from Williamsport, Halfway, Funkstown, Clear Spring and Fairplay responded.

The Washington County chapter of the American Red Cross also responded to offer aid, the dispatcher said.

City man wanted in 2007 vehicle fire

The Maryland State Fire Marshal was searching Friday for a Hagerstown man wanted in connection with a 2007 arson.

Brian Lee Urban, 30, was wanted on a charge of second-degree arson in connection with a July 2007 vehicle fire in the 12000 block of Cedar Ridge Road in Williamsport, the deputy state fire marshal said in a press release.


Urban was described as white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 260 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, the fire marshal said.

The vehicle involved in the fire was a 1994 Chevrolet passenger car that belonged to Urban's estranged wife, authorities said.

W.Va. woman faces child abuse charges

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Charles Town woman was charged with two felony counts of child abuse resulting in bodily injury, according to a Charles Town Police Department press release.

Emily C. Cooper, of 121 4th Circle in Charles Town, was charged, police said.

The police investigation began Oct. 15, 2007, police said.

Two juvenile victims were involved, police alleged.

Cooper posted $50,000 bond and was released, but was not to have contact with the victims, officers said.
