CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Police in Philadelphia Thursday apprehended Juan R. Johnson, wanted by the Chambersburg Police Department in the Feb. 1 shooting death of Gregory Street.

"We were notified at about midmorning that he was in custody in Philadelphia," said Chambersburg Detective Sgt. Dianne Kelso, who added that authorities in Philadelphia did not tell police here under what circumstances Johnson was caught.

Two borough detectives left Chambersburg for Philadelphia about noon, she said.

"We anticipate bringing Mr. Johnson back to Chambersburg. However that's predicated on choices Mr. Johnson can make," Kelso said. Johnson could ask for a judge or magistrate in Philadelphia to set bail, or waive a bail hearing, she said.

Either way, Kelso said Johnson likely would be returned to Chambersburg for arraignment within 48 hours.

Johnson, 24, who has no fixed address, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and criminal homicide in the death of Street, 24, whose body was found Feb. 2 in a stolen vehicle in Harrisburg, Pa. Street had been shot several times in the back of the head, police said.

About 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 1, Shelby Flythe parked her 2000 Ford Excursion outside of her East Washington Street home, police said. She went inside, leaving the engine running and her boyfriend Street in the front passenger seat with Johnson in the back seat, police said.

The affidavit of probable cause stated that a witness heard shots and, looking over at the vehicle, saw a man get out of the back, climb into the driver's seat and drive away. The witness saw Street slumped over in the passenger seat, according to the affidavit.

Street's body still was in the passenger seat when police in Harrisburg found the vehicle the next morning.

When police issued an arrest warrant for Johnson, they said he was known to frequent Harrisburg and Philadelphia.
