Grier ties for seventh in Florida event

ORLANDO, Fla. - Hagerstown's Ashley Grier finished in a three-way tie for seventh place on Wednesday in the Florida Women's Open at Rio Pinar Country Club.

Grier shot rounds of 72, 71 and 73 to finish at even-par for the tournament. She won $950.

Kristy McPherson won the tournament at 9 under, winning $4,000.

Bloomsburg 5-2, Shepherd 1-14

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University earned a doubleheader split with Bloomsburg.

In the first game, Drew McCormick had two hits for the Rams in the loss.

In the second game, Shepherd pounded out 15 hits, led by McCormick's three hits and four RBIs, including a three-run homer. Chris Wilkins also had three hits and added two RBIs, while Justin Dailey, Trey Stewart and Brett Caplan each had two hits.

Beard, Cobb shine for Davis & Elkins

A pair of former Washington County prep standouts are performing well for Davis & Elkins in the West Virginia Conference.

Sophomore Tyler Beard, a Williamsport graduate, is hitting .387 through 11 games with two doubles, a triple and six RBIs.

Sophomore Trevor Cobb, a St. Maria Goretti graduate, is hitting .319 with a double, three RBIs, four steals and an on-base percentage of .432.

Shepherd still fifth in region

Shepherd University remained in the fifth spot in the latest NCAA Division II East Region poll.

The Rams (22-6) captured the West Virginia Conference regular-season title with an 18-2 league mark.

Washington Co. Hall of Fame membership meeting

The Washington County Sports Hall of Fame will hold its annual membership meeting on Monday at Beaver Creek Country Club, beginning at 6 p.m. with a social hour, to be followed by a short business meeting.

Robert Savitt will present "100 Years of Baseball in Washington County" following the meeting. All members are encouraged to attend. Lifetime memberships will be available for $5 at the meeting.
