Who will fill McKee's shoes?

Washington County GOP has 19 candidates from which to choose for delegate seat

Over the last week, The Herald-Mail found and talked to most of the people who applied for the House of Delegates seat vacated by Robert A. McKee.

The Washington County Republican Central Committee, which is in charge of sending Gov. Martin O'Malley a recommendation of who should be appointed, said Monday that 19 people applied.

As of Thursday, the committee had not announced its choice.

Below is a little about the applicants, based on brief conversations with the ones who could be reached:

· Donald L. Armstrong II, 42, lives north of Hagerstown and is a machinist for Volvo Powertrain North America.

· James K. Childerston, 52, lives north of Hagerstown. He is a psychologist with a private practice in Hagerstown.

· Jeff Cline, 51, of Williamsport, is a Williamsport Town Council member and a Realtor with Roger Fairbourn Real Estate.

· Jim Elliott, 66, of Halfway, is in charge of site security at Washington County District Court and is retired from the Army.

· Rebecca M. Fishack, 26, of Smithsburg, recently started a job as administrative assistant to the president of Shepherd University after working in the Maryland governor's appointments office in the Ehrlich and O'Malley administrations.

· Elizabeth A. Jones, 45, of Williamsport, is a legislative aide for Del. Christopher B. Shank.

· James F. Kercheval, 43, lives north of Hagerstown and is a Washington County commissioner.

· Elton J. Martin, 44, of Maugansville, a general contractor, owns multiple businesses, including New Generation Homes, E. Martin Commercial Property Management and E. Martin Trucking.

· James G. McCleaf II, 37, of Williamsport, is the mayor of Williamsport and works for Hopewell Manufacturing in Halfway.

· Robert W. McKenzie, 39, of Williamsport, is the director of training a commercial diving school based in New Jersey, Divers Academy International.

· James D. Morgan, 79, lives north of Hagerstown and is retired after an education career of more than 40 years in teaching and administration. He headed the Washington County of Education's testing program from 1957 to 1962.

· John C. Munson, 66, who lives near Maugansville, is a retired postmaster and served as a Washington County commissioner from 2002 to 2006.

· Richard F. Newman

· Andrew Serafini, 45, lives north of Hagerstown. He is an investment adviser with Serafini Financial Services in Hagerstown.

· Denny Stouffer, 54, of Ringgold, is an auctioneer, appraiser and real estate broker. He is retired after about 20 years as a correctional officer, including time as the commander of a canine unit.

· Kerry Walker

· David A. Williams, 56, of Smithsburg, is a dentist and former member of the Smithsburg Town Council.

· William J. Wivell, 43, of Smithsburg, is a Washington County commissioner and the business manager at Saint James School.

· Glenn A. Young Jr., 61, of Williamsport, sells insurance in Maryland and West Virginia for Monumental Life.
