Smith rocks Brunswick with big numbers

WILLIAMSPORT - Morgan Smith likes scoring points in bunches near the end of the season.

The Williamsport senior posted a career-high double-double on Monday with 36 points and 23 rebounds to lead the Williamsport girls over Brunswick in an MVAL Antietam Conference contest, 85-51.

Last season, Smith had scored 34 points in a tournament contest at Catoctin.

Kelly Beard had 19 points, while Brittany Malott grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wildcats (10-12, 6-4), who avenged a loss to Brunswick on Dec. 18.

Hannah Rogers scored 19 points for Brunswick (8-14, 5-5).

BOYS BASKETBALL



Allegany 82, Boonsboro 65

BOONSBORO - Adam Chambers and Seth Poffenberger each scored 13 points for Boonsboro in a loss to Allegany.

Nico Wanko had 12 points, while Jordan Young had 11 points for the Warriors (6-16).

Cameron Butler scored 25 points, while Travis Dordevick added 18 points for Allegany (17-4).

Tournament changes

Boonsboro and South Hagerstown will host Maryland playoff doubleheaders on Friday.

In Class 1A West Region play at Boonsboro, the Warriors will host Clear Spring in a girls contest with tipoff at 6 p.m. That game will be followed by a boys contest as Boonsboro will host Smithsburg.

In Class 2A, South Hagerstown will host a pair of games. At 5:30, the Rebels will take on Rockville while the boys will host Clarksburg in a 7:30 tipoff.
